A cable satellite TV versus
study reveals Satellite TV subscribers pay less
Cable TV subscribers are spending more on
services each month than satellite TV subscribers, but they still
aren’t as happy as their satellite TV counterparts, according to a
cable satellite TV versus study just released.
Consumers now pay an average of $38.93 a
month for satellite services from Directv and the Dish Network vs
$59.62 for services from cable operations, according to J.D.
Powers and Associates’ 2003 Residential Cable/Satellite TV
customer satisfaction survey. The cable satellite tv versus study
surveyed 133,000 consumers nationwide.
According to the cable satellite tv versus
study subscribers gave both satellite TV services higher marks for
overall satisfaction than cable subscribers on six factors:
reliability, cost, billing, promotions, image and customer
service. The average monthly tab for cable TV is up 41% since 1998
vs 8% for satellite TV. Much of that has been driven by larger
rate increases as cable operators spent money to upgrade their
networks. When it comes to customer satisfaction, however,
consumers ranked Directv and the Dish Network as the top two
satellite TV companies in the survey.
The cable satellite tv versus results come
at a time when the subscription battle between cable satellite tv
versus has never been more heated. Cable still dominates, but it’s
down from 68% of households to 60% since 1998, according to J.D.
Powers and Associates. Satellite TV has grown from 7% of
households to 17%.
